US urges Azerbaijan and Armenia to finalize peace deal

The United States is encouraging Azerbaijan and Armenia to finalize a peace agreement in the coming weeks and months, according to Report by Radio Liberty in Yerevan, citing comments from US Assistant Secretary of State James O'Brien.

"The United States is encouraging the two South Caucasus countries to finalize such an agreement in the coming weeks and months," O'Brien stated.

He emphasized that Baku and Yerevan should determine the exact role the US can play.

"We do not claim to be a superpower in the region. We are here to support the legitimate desire of the peoples of the region to conclude a long-term peace agreement. At this point, the sides are pretty good at talking directly to each other," O'Brien added.
