Vandals target Azerbaijani poetess Natavan monument in France
Over the past few days, social media has been abuzz with reports that the Khurshidban Natavan monument, which was erected in 2017 in the city of Evian-les-Bains, France, will soon be demolished.
According to Report, the Natavan monument was recently vandalised and doused with red paint.
The monument has been under a protective coating for the sake of its preservation.
It should be noted that the recently intensified anti-Azerbaijani policy of France has now spilt over into the sphere of culture and art.
On December 18, opposition representatives asked the city council to officially remove all inscriptions referring to the park in the city, according to the local publication Le Messager. According to Mayor Josiane Ley, all references to the "Azerbaijan Park" have already been removed.
Subsequently, the Permanent Council, which advises the head of the Ismayilli district council, issued a statement on the termination of the friendship and cooperation charter signed between Ismayilli and Evian-les-Bains. It is also proposed to give the name of the Azerbaijani poet Khurshidbanu Natavan to the central park of Ismayilli.
Strangely, neither Paris nor UNESCO, which is responsible for protecting cultural heritage and is based in France, has yet reacted to this issue.
