Vatican denies reports of Pentagon threats to former US nuncio
The Holy See has dismissed media reports alleging that representatives of the Pentagon made threats against the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, calling the claims inaccurate.
In a statement issued by the Vatican Press Office, officials clarified that a recent meeting between Cardinal Christophe Pierre and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defence Elbridge Colby was routine and focused on matters of mutual interest, Caliber.Az reports.
The Vatican said discussions “did not go beyond the scope of the regular activities of the papal mission,” adding that both sides exchanged views on relevant issues in a standard diplomatic context.
Rejecting the allegations circulated by some media outlets, the statement added: “The version put forward by some media outlets does not correspond to reality.”
