Voice of Kongo rep: Baku conference to provide more opportunities for self-expression
The international conference on colonialism organised in Baku will provide greater opportunities for self-expression, Cedric Onduye, a representative from the online media outlet Voice of Kongo said.
Speaking in an interview with Azertag, Onduye emphasised that the conference titled “Belgian Colonialism: Acknowledgement and Responsibility,” organised by the Baku Initiative Group, offers new platforms for independent voices, particularly in post-colonial contexts.
Onduye highlighted the importance of reclaiming control over media narratives, noting that colonial powers historically used media as a tool for control. He expressed hope that this conference would contribute to shifting away from the legacy of colonialism, empowering people to shape their own stories.
He added that it was time to remove the word "'colonialism" from the people's vocabulary.
