Vucic: Serbia committed to develop ties with Azerbaijan
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met Azerbaijan's Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova on May 25 to discuss bilateral relations, economic cooperation and other forms of mutually beneficial cooperation.
"Serbia is committed to act towards further development and advancement of relations with friendly Azerbaijan in the period that is ahead of us to the benefit of all our citizens," Vucic wrote in a post on his Instagram profile that also included photos from the meeting with Gafarova, Tanjug reports.
To recap, this February, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reiterated that relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia are built on strong friendship, mutual trust, and understanding.
Aliyev expressed confidence that “Azerbaijani-Serbian strategic partnership and our mutually beneficial collaboration in political, economic-commercial, energy, transportation-logistical, defence, and other fields will continue to evolve dynamically”.
Azerbaijan and Serbia have strategic partnership relations covering all areas.
They support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries on the basis of norms and principles of international law. In February 2013, the draft "Resolution on the observance of international law and the peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict" was put on the agenda of the Serbian Parliament.
Bilateral friendly relations and cooperation are also reflected in multilateral platforms within international organisations. An example of this is the mutual support of countries within international organisations for their positions based on the norms and principles of international law.
It should be noted that a high-level event dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement was organised by Azerbaijan and Serbia in Belgrade on October 10-11, 2021. The successful implementation of this large-scale event, which is attended by high-ranking representatives of about 120 countries and international organizations, is a clear example of joint cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia.
