Western Azerbaijan Community accuses Amnesty International, HRW of ethnic bias against Baku Ahead of COP29
As COP29 approaches, Azerbaijan faces intensified scrutiny from what it deems "anti-Azerbaijani forces," particularly from organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (HRW).
In a statement, the Western Azerbaijan Community criticized the two organizations for issuing slanderous remarks against the country, labelling their demands as unreasonable, Caliber.Az reports.
“The publication of these statements on the same day once again proves that attacks on Azerbaijan, especially intensified in recent weeks, are managed from a single centre controlling both organisations,” the Community says.
It suggests that these politically motivated attacks stem from forces unable to accept Azerbaijan’s restoration of sovereignty, aiming to undermine the nation’s international achievements.
The statement also highlights an unanswered appeal made by the Western Azerbaijan Community to Amnesty International and HRW in August of the previous year, regarding the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia. This, they claim, underscores the organizations' deviation from fundamental human rights principles.
“All this proves that Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch act as a political tool in the hands of well-known circles and pursue a policy of discrimination against Azerbaijan on ethnic and religious grounds,” the statement notes.
In conclusion, the Community strongly condemned what they termed the “anti-Azerbaijani position” of both organizations, calling out their actions as “illegal” and indicative of a policy of racial discrimination.
