Western Azerbaijan Community condemns US human rights report as discriminatory
The Western Azerbaijan Community has stated that annual reports on human rights prepared on behalf of the US Congress are a tool of political pressure and have nothing to do with the protection of human rights.
The Community made the remarks, commenting on the latest report of the US State Department on human rights, Caliber.Az reports.
"Does a country that bears enormous responsibility for human rights violations around the world, a country within which the human rights situation is by no means rosy, have the moral right to prepare such documents?
Through this biased and discriminatory report, the US tried to put pressure on Azerbaijan this year as well. Along with other unsubstantiated claims, the report devotes much space to slander about how the rights of Armenians in Azerbaijan are allegedly violated. However, the report does not mention the facts of the expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia, the destruction of their cultural heritage and the obstruction of their return.
We condemn the State Department's misuse of high values for its political purposes, discrimination and prejudice against Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis. We call on the US to respect the right of return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia," the Community said.
