Western Azerbaijan Community ramps up outreach with 120 letters, says chairman

The Western Azerbaijan Community has sent 120 letters to international organisations and their leadership since its establishment, according to its chairman Aziz Alakbarli.

Speaking at the international scientific conference titled “Return to Western Azerbaijan: A New Stage of the National Idea”, Alakbarli said the organisation has also been active in producing and disseminating formal documentation on the issue, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

He noted that 11 documents prepared by the Community have been circulated as official papers of the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly and the UN Economic and Social Council.

In total, the Community has issued 345 statements, which it says were aimed at responding to what it described as biased reports and resolutions that distort facts. It has also held 78 meetings with foreign delegations and diplomats.

Alakberli added that several international parliamentary bodies and organisations, including the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, TURKPA and the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, have adopted resolutions on the Western Azerbaijan issue, expressing support for the Community’s stated right of return.
