Western Azerbaijan Community slams Armenia for blocking dialogue on right of return

The Western Azerbaijan Community has condemned the statement made by Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to President Ilham Aliyev’s address at the May 21 conference in Ankara, titled “Return to Western Azerbaijan as an Essential Condition for the Supremacy of Human Rights”.

In its statement, the Western Azerbaijan Community condemned the Armenian government for what it described as deliberate obstruction of dialogue and unwillingness to acknowledge the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia, Caliber.Az reports.

“Armenian authorities, instead of ensuring one of the basic human rights – the right to return – are engaged in spreading statements that do not correspond to reality and denying the essence of the issue, which is unacceptable,” the statement by the community read.

The community further accused Armenia of harboring elements from the defunct separatist regime once active in Azerbaijan’s territories.

“Armenia is avoiding dialogue with the Western Azerbaijan Community and allows the activities of the remnants of the former separatist regime on its territory, which act against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and this completely contradicts the statements of Yerevan about the interest in sustainable peace in the region,” the community noted.

Reaffirming its position, the Western Azerbaijan Community stated its unwavering commitment to pursuing the right of return through peaceful and lawful means, in line with international standards. “We reiterate that we are determined to continue to fight for our right of return in line with international norms and in a peaceful manner,” the community added.
