Western Azerbaijan Community thanks OIC states for supporting right of return
Another major step has been achieved on the path toward gaining international support for the return to Western Azerbaijan.
As reported by Caliber.Az, citing a statement by the Western Azerbaijan Community, a specific provision on the issue of Western Azerbaijan was included in the final declaration of the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Istanbul. In addition, a special resolution on the matter was adopted.
The documents adopted at the session strongly condemn the deportation of Western Azerbaijanis, the destruction of their cultural heritage, and Armenia’s denial of their right to return. Member states of the OIC unequivocally expressed their support for the safe and dignified return of Western Azerbaijanis to their historical homeland.
With the adoption of the resolution titled “The Right of Return of Azerbaijanis Forcefully and Systematically Deported from Present-Day Armenian Territory,” the issue of Western Azerbaijan has been formally established as a key item on the OIC’s agenda. The organisation’s executive bodies have been instructed to regularly follow up on this matter.
The Community emphasises that, following last year’s decision on Western Azerbaijan adopted at the OIC summit in Banjul at the initiative of Azerbaijan’s leadership, the latest resolutions of the Council of Foreign Ministers reflect the OIC’s consistent and principled stance on this issue.
The Western Azerbaijan Community believes that the adopted resolutions will contribute to the strengthening of international law and human rights, as well as the achievement of peace, justice, and reconciliation in the region. The Community warmly welcomes the decisions of the OIC Council of Ministers and expresses its sincere gratitude to the member states of the organisation for their support.
