Western Azerbaijan Community urges UN to condemn Armenia’s ethnic cleansing policy

The Western Azerbaijan Community has sent letters to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, urging them to strongly condemn Armenia's policy of racial discrimination and ethnic cleansing.

“A recently surfaced video from a 1993 speech by Levon Ter-Petrosyan, when he was president of Armenia, confirms that ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis was a core component of the country's state policy,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the Western Azerbaijan Community’s statement.

“This statement by Ter-Petrosyan proves that the policy of ethnic cleansing and the occupation of Azerbaijani territories was driven by a deliberate intent and highlights Armenia’s state responsibility for these actions. It also reveals the systematic and organized nature of these crimes against peace and humanity, indicating the existence of a specific plan. Therefore, we have sent letters to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, calling on the international community to strongly condemn Armenia's policy," the statement said.

Earlier, the Western Azerbaijan Community made a strong demand for the Armenian government to apologize for the deportation of Western Azerbaijanis and create conditions for their return.

In a statement released by the community, it said: "We demand from the Armenian government to apologize for the deportation of Western Azerbaijanis, to start a dialogue with the Western Azerbaijan Community, to create conditions for our return, to stop arming and to open communications in line with the commitments".
