The 13th session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13) has begun in Baku, marking a historic and important event, particularly after COP29 hosted in the Azerbaijani capital, according to Deputy Foreign Minister and chief COP29 negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev.
Rafiyev stated that Azerbaijan’s contribution to building a bridge between these two major global processes — climate action and urban development — is highly valued, Caliber.Az reports per state media.
He noted that interest and participation in WUF13 are exceptionally high, with an unprecedented number of participants representing a wide and diverse range of sectors attending the event.
The deputy minister highlighted that one of the main expectations of the forum is the exchange of experience among countries on modern trends and approaches to urban development.
Rafiyev also underlined that a key priority for Azerbaijan is sharing international experience in resettlement and urban planning in the liberated territories. He emphasized the importance of developing climate-resilient and sustainable infrastructure, as well as applying smart city approaches.
According to him, the event provides an important platform to present Azerbaijan’s achievements in sustainable urban development on the international stage.
