Azerbaijani embassy's car in Washington targeted in armed offensive

The official car of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Washington was fired upon on the night of October 10-11. Our diplomatic mission immediately informed the relevant US bodies in connection with the incident, and the camera pictures were provided to the other side.

The US Chargé d'Affaires in our country was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on October 12, in this connection with this issue.

Serious concern and dissatisfaction with the incident were expressed to US diplomat, and it was demanded to ensure the security of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission.

Systematic attacks on the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan by radical members of the Armenian communities abroad, including attacks and acts of vandalism committed against our embassies in Washington, Paris, Beirut and other cities is a matter of serious concern.

The provision of security of our diplomatic missions abroad is an obligation of the host country, accepted by the International Convention. In this regard, we reiterate the need to conduct appropriate investigations in connection with each incident that has occurred and the provision of security for our embassies, as well as our diplomats at the required level.

Recall that after the declaration of independence of Armenia in 1991, in order to make territorial claims against Azerbaijan, the terrorists turned terror into an instrument of state policy and, in the process of occupying the territories of Azerbaijan, Armenia widely used means of terror in various places of our country, and also committed terrorist acts in Azerbaijan's capital city of Baku. As is known, 24 Turkish diplomats working in different countries of the world became victims of the Armenian terror.

We note with regret that no defendant has been prosecuted either in recent attacks or in criminal cases initiated in 2020 in European capitals, as well as in the city of Los Angeles in connection with attacks on Azerbaijani diplomatic missions and also on members of the Azerbaijani community. It is this impunity that makes radical Armenian groups resort to new provocations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns the criminal actions of radical forces in foreign countries, directed against Azerbaijani diplomatic missions, diplomats and their property based on hatred, and demands that the bodies responsible for preventing such provocations in the respective countries approach their duties with full responsibility.

Investigative activities related to attacks on our diplomatic missions abroad will be under the control of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
