Deputy minister: Azerbaijan to create carbon-free zones in liberated lands

28 November 2023 13:59

Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Taghiyeva has said that work is underway to create carbon-free zones in the liberated territories.

Taghiyeva made these remarks at round table discussions on global climate change organised on November 28 in Baku, Report informs.

She noted that one of the main goals for the coming period is the creation of carbon neutrality zones in the territories liberated from occupation.

“Relevant work has begun in this sphere. The issues related to climate change have been outlined in strategic documents and state programmes. Taking all this into account, we will be able to achieve the goals set for the country,” Taghiyeva said.

The goal has been set to increase the share of alternative energy sources to 30 per cent by 2030, Tagiyeva said.

According to her, some work is already being carried out in Azerbaijan aimed at reducing the emission of gases that create the greenhouse effect.

“The country has wide potential in the field of alternative energy. Taking this into account, the country has set a goal to increase the share of alternative energy sources to 30 per cent by 2030. The leadership of the convention was presented with the country's new goals until 2050 in connection with the Paris Agreement. This is our commitment to reducing emissions of gases that create the greenhouse effect by up to 40 per cent,” said Tagiyeva.
