Azerbaijan's role in BSEC highlighted at tourism education meeting

During the 1st meeting of Higher Education Institutions Specialized in Tourism Education within the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC) Framework, Secretary General Lazar Comanescu emphasized Azerbaijan's significant role in advancing the goals and objectives of the organization.

Held in Baku, the event marked a milestone as the first gathering focused on tourism education within the BSEC framework, underscoring Azerbaijan's commitment to fostering collaboration in this vital sector, Trend reports.

Addressing the event, Comanescu underscored the pivotal role of education in shaping the future trajectory of the tourism industry. He expressed confidence that the discussions held during the meeting would enhance cooperation among BSEC member states and facilitate the resolution of challenges facing the tourism sector. Describing tourism as a key driver of regional development, Comanescu praised Azerbaijan's contributions to advancing BSEC's objectives.

The meeting convened official representatives from 11 BSEC member states, including Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Russia, Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, and Ukraine. Additionally, representatives from the UN World Tourism Organization participated in the discussions, further highlighting the significance of the event on an international scale.

Against the backdrop of Azerbaijan's growing tourism sector, recent statistics from the State Tourism Agency indicate a notable increase in visitor arrivals. With 513,413 foreigners visiting Azerbaijan in January-March of the current year, representing a 39 per cent surge compared to the same period in 2023, the country continues to position itself as an attractive destination for global travelers.
