10 October 2024 09:21

Multilateral political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) were held in Ankara, Türkiye.

Azerbaijan’s delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

During the consultations, participants discussed existing prospects and future plans for strengthening cooperation within the OTS in various fields, including political, economic, trade, transport, communications, humanitarian, and other areas. They also reviewed outcomes from the Bishkek Summit of the Organization.

Special attention was given to the fact that these consultations coincided with the 15th anniversary of the founding of the OTS, established by the Nakhchivan Agreement. To commemorate the occasion, Deputy Minister Mammadov presented a special gift to the Secretary General of the OTS, Kubanychbek Omuraliev, marking the historical significance of the Nakhchivan Agreement.

The participants expressed satisfaction with the development of cooperation and the strengthening of ties across various sectors in the Turkic world over the past 15 years. They also stressed the importance of continuing efforts in this direction by utilizing available opportunities.

Azerbaijan’s key role in advancing the organization was underscored, with emphasis on several initiatives proposed by the country, including the significance of the informal summit held earlier this year in the city of Shusha and the adoption of the Karabakh Declaration.

Mammadov also provided a detailed update on Azerbaijan’s preparations for the 29th Conference of Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, as well as on the current situation in the post-conflict period and the country's ongoing efforts towards reconstruction and peace.

As part of the consultations, the heads of the delegations also met with Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
