Ankara seeks alternatives as Iran gas contract winds down
Türkiye’s natural gas supply contract with Iran is due to expire in the coming months, with no negotiations currently underway on a possible extension, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said.
Speaking on Saturday, April 18, as reported by Iran International, Bayraktar noted that while Ankara and Tehran could still enter discussions over renewing the agreement, no such talks have taken place so far.
He made the remarks during the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, where he also outlined Türkiye’s broader strategy to reduce reliance on single sources of energy.
According to Bayraktar, Ankara is actively working to diversify its gas supply, including by increasing imports of liquefied natural gas, with Russian LNG among the options being considered.
