Armenia elected to UNESCO World Heritage Committee for first time
Armenia has been elected to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the first time, the country’s Foreign Ministry announced on November 24.
The vote took place during the 25th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the World Heritage Convention at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Armenia secured 105 out of 161 votes, the highest result among candidates for the available seats. The Foreign Ministry said the outcome reflects strong international confidence in Armenia’s work on cultural heritage preservation.
By joining the committee, Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to global efforts to protect, preserve and restore cultural and natural heritage, as well as to uphold the principles of the World Heritage Convention, the statement added.
