Armenian opposition leader travels to Ukraine’s occupied Donetsk Region
The leader of the Armenian opposition bloc "Mother Armenia," Andranik Tevanyan, has made a visit to the so-called "DPR" (Donetsk People's Republic) along with a delegation, marking the first such visit by Armenian political figures.
Tevanyan shared details of the visit during a conversation with journalists, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"This is an unprecedented visit, as no political delegation from Armenia has ever visited the 'DPR' before," he emphasized.
Tevanyan noted that the visit by the Armenian opposition to Donbas signals that "there are forces in Armenia advocating for the development and strengthening of relations between Yerevan and Moscow."
He also mentioned that the trip to the "DPR" was organized at the initiative of the local Armenian community in Donbas.
Last fall, Tevanyan called for the consolidation of all political forces in Armenia with the goal of removing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan from office.
On 24 February 2022, the Russian army launched a military operation, citing the protection of the "DPR" from Ukrainian government forces as its primary objective. The operation escalated into a large-scale conflict, impacting numerous regions across Ukraine. As the conflict continues, there have been significant effects on the sovereignty and infrastructure of Ukraine, with widespread damage to towns and cities, along with civilian casualties. The situation remains a central issue in international diplomacy and regional stability.
