Armenian opposition MPs sue PM Pashinyan, FM Mirzoyan over deal reached with Azerbaijan
Four opposition members from the "Armenia" faction—Kristine Vardanyan, Anna Grigoryan, Gegam Manukyan, and Artur Khachatryan—have filed a lawsuit against the Armenian government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The MPs are demanding the court declare a letter from Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, dated March 14, as unlawful, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The letter, which prohibited the lawmakers from accessing draft agreements coordinated with Azerbaijan, has been a point of contention.
The lawsuit was accepted for review by the court chaired by Judge Robert Makeyan. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 14, 2025.
In their statement, the MPs expressed their intent to persist in challenging the decision, emphasizing the importance of restoring their access to crucial documents for public awareness.
"We will be consistent in overturning this arbitrary decision and restoring our right to access this vital document," the statement reads.
Earlier in October, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan confirmed that he had personally prohibited the opposition from viewing the agreement text. He explained that the decision was made to prevent any political speculation. "If the opposition had seen the text, they would have come to the parliament and started 'spreading tales,'" Pashinyan stated.
