Armenian PM reaffirms commitment to institutionalising peace with Azerbaijan

17 September 2025 09:59

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has reiterated his readiness to continue working on the institutionalisation of peace with Azerbaijan, highlighting the progress achieved during the recent Washington summit.

According to Caliber.Az, Pashinyan made the statement on his X page in response to a post by US President Donald Trump regarding the August 8 meeting in Washington.

"Once again thank you President Trump for brokering this historic agreement with Azerbaijan — something no one before achieved. Reaffirming my commitment to work on further institutionalisation of peace and realisation of TRIPP," Pashinyan wrote.

His remarks came in reaction to Trump’s post published on 16 September, in which the US president shared a photograph of himself with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Trump wrote: "Such an Honor to have helped settle the War with Azerbaijan and Armenia and, at the same time, become friends with these two Great Leaders and Men, President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. It will be an everlasting friendship for me but, more importantly, for the United States of America!"

The comments follow significant diplomatic developments at the Washington summit hosted by Trump, where Aliyev and Pashinyan signed a joint declaration establishing a seven-point framework. This document emphasises respect for sovereignty, recognition of territorial integrity, and the renunciation of the use of force.

In addition, the foreign ministers of both countries initialled a draft “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations” in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.

A central element of the framework is the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) — commonly referred to as the Zangezur Corridor. This planned transit route, which runs through southern Armenia, is designed to connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave. The project holds both strategic and economic importance for the wider region.
