Armenian PM's ex-assistant elected prosecutor-general
Newly-elected Armenian Prosecutor-General Anna Vardapetyan has taken an oath in the Armenian parliament and has officially taken office.
The Prosecutor General's Office has been headed by a woman for the first time in Armenia's history, Caliber.Az reports on September 15 with reference to the Armenian media.
Vardapetyan vowed to strengthen the rule of law and protect the rights and interests of citizens, and the security and constitutional order of Armenia.
Some 70 MPs voted for the candidate of the former legal assistant to the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in June 2022.
Representatives of the Civil Contract faction voted as opposition members have been boycotting parliament sessions since late April 2022.
The powers of current Prosecutor-General Artur Davtyan expired in September 2022. He could be re-elected once, but the Civil Contract members decided not to nominate him again.
