Armenian PM stresses need to preserve fragile peace with Azerbaijan
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has underscored the importance of safeguarding the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, cautioning that the normalization of relations does not imply the absence of disputes or unresolved issues.
Speaking at a press briefing, Pashinyan emphasized that while diplomatic progress has been made, continued effort and restraint are essential to maintain stability in the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
"Yes, peace has been established, but that doesn't mean we have no questions or unresolved problems. But peace must be preserved," he said.
To recall, on August 8, a Joint Declaration was signed in Washington during a summit hosted by US President Donald Trump, attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The leaders endorsed a joint declaration outlining a seven-point framework emphasising sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the renunciation of force.
Foreign ministers from both nations initialled a draft “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” witnessed by Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.
A key feature of the agreement is the creation of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), also called the Zangezur Corridor — a transit passage through part of Armenia connecting mainland Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave.
