Armenian security services raid opposition figure’s office amid treason allegations VIDEO

22 May 2026 08:59

Armenian security officers raided the office of opposition figure Andranik Tevanyan early on May 22, following accusations of high treason levelled against him by the country’s Investigative Committee.

According to Armenian media reports cited by Caliber.Az, officers from the National Security Service conducted the searches in the morning hours. Video footage from the scene was shared on social media by Tevanyan’s associate, Aregnaz Manukyan.

The footage shows law enforcement officers demanding that filming be stopped, while Manukyan asks them to present a search warrant. The officers reportedly ignored the request and continued insisting that the camera be turned off.

A day earlier, Armenia’s Investigative Committee announced that Tevanyan — identified in the statement as citizen A.T. — had allegedly been recruited by foreign intelligence services in 2024 while serving as a member of parliament.

Investigators claim he gathered detailed information from a closed parliamentary discussion held in April 2024 and transferred the materials, translated into Russian and classified as state secrets, to foreign handlers. According to the committee, he allegedly received $622,000 in exchange.

A criminal case has been opened on charges related to treason and espionage activities.

The announcement came one day after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during an election rally that the National Security Service would submit information to investigators regarding an alleged crime connected to Tevanyan.
