A fire broke out at the Rosneft-owned Ryazan oil refinery after an overnight attack on the Russian city of Ryazan, according to OSINT analysis published by ASTRA on Friday, May 15.
Residents reported hearing multiple explosions during the night of May 15. Ryazan’s governor said three people were killed and 12 injured, adding that residential buildings and an industrial facility were damaged in the attack.
According to ASTRA’s analysis, the damaged sites included two apartment blocks as well as the Ryazan oil refinery. The outlet said photographs filmed by eyewitnesses from the Olimpiysky Gorodok district showed the blaze at the refinery, located around 4 km away.
The Ryazan oil refinery, one of Russia’s largest refining facilities, is part of Rosneft and has a processing capacity of about 17 million tonnes of oil per year. The plant produces petrol, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, fuel oil, liquefied gases, bitumen and petrochemical feedstock.
ASTRA noted that the refinery had previously been targeted in repeated Ukrainian attacks.
