Axios: US unhappy with Israeli strikes on Iran’s fuel infrastructure
The US administration is reportedly dissatisfied with the scale of Israel’s strikes on Iran’s fuel infrastructure, Axios reports.
Sources cited by the outlet said Washington did not expect Israel to strike 30 Iranian fuel storage facilities on March 7.
Axios noted that the operation triggered “the first significant disagreement between the allies since the war began.”
US officials fear the attacks could rally Iranian society and strengthen domestic support for the government in Tehran, potentially “driving up oil prices.”
The report says Israel did inform the United States in advance about its plans to target the facilities, but American officials expected the scope of the operation to be smaller. “We don't think it was a good idea,” one US official told Axios.
According to the publication, Washington and Israeli authorities are expected to hold consultations on the issue. Axios also reports that a visit to Israel by US President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff is planned for March 10.
