CIS chiefs of staff meet in Astana to discuss regional military cooperation PHOTO
Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have discussed the global military-political situation and developments in Central Asia during a committee meeting held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Participants focused on the advancement of multilateral military cooperation and strengthened coordination among CIS armed forces, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.
Representatives of the defence ministries of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan attended the meeting.
Ahead of the plenary session, bilateral meetings between delegation leaders were held, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame monument on the Otan Qorgaushylar Square.
First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces, Kanysh Abubakirov, said the Kazakh side presented its experience in military development and new approaches to improving combat readiness.
The discussions also covered cooperation in radiation, chemical and biological defence, flight safety in military aviation, and the use of modern high-tech weapon systems.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties signed final documents outlining agreements on further development of military cooperation and measures to strengthen regional security.
