Russia, Arab states review security dynamics in Gulf region
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko met in Moscow with ambassadors and diplomatic representatives of several Gulf countries, focusing on the military-political situation in the Persian Gulf region, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
At the request of Arab diplomats, the meeting brought together the ambassadors of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, the chargé d’affaires of Kuwait, and representatives of the diplomatic missions of Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
“During the meeting, the main attention was paid to the Middle East agenda, with an emphasis on the military and political situation in the Persian Gulf region. The heads of diplomatic missions conveyed the content of the GCC Council of Ministers’ statement adopted on June 10 regarding the situation in the region,” the ministry said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that the Russian side emphasised the importance of compliance with the memorandum on the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, signed the previous day by the presidents of Iran and the United States with mediation from Pakistan and Qatar.
“The hope was expressed for the earliest possible restoration of free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement noted. “Prospects for further cooperation within the framework of the Russia–GCC Strategic Dialogue mechanism were also discussed.”
