Azerbaijan's engagement with NATO began with its participation in the Partnership for Peace (PfP) programme, established in 1994. PfP aims to build trust and enhance cooperation between NATO and non-member countries through practical military and political cooperation.
Azerbaijan has developed a strategic partnership with NATO, focusing on areas such as defense reform, military education, interoperability, and joint exercises. This partnership is part of Azerbaijan's broader foreign policy strategy to strengthen security and stability in the region.
Looking ahead, Azerbaijan aims to deepen its cooperation with NATO, exploring opportunities for enhanced defense cooperation, military modernisation, and cybersecurity collaboration. The relationship between NATO and Azerbaijan remains dynamic, reflecting shared interests in promoting peace, security, and stability in the Euro-Atlantic region.
As Azerbaijan continues to navigate its strategic partnerships, NATO remains a key pillar of Azerbaijan's security policy, contributing to regional stability and cooperation in the broader Euro-Atlantic area.
