19 November 2024 16:08

Azerbaijan is on track to meet its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement, including a significant push towards renewable energy and sustainable agricultural practices, Azerbaijan's Agriculture Minister Majnun Mammadov said.

Speaking at a press conference during COP29, Mammadov outlined the country’s ambitious plans to address climate challenges and support global sustainability efforts, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Mammadov emphasized that Azerbaijan is committed to fulfilling its Paris Agreement obligations, including the development of a national adaptation plan designed to tackle critical climate issues. These issues include water scarcity and enhancing climate resilience within the agricultural sector.

“By 2030, we plan to meet 30 per cent of our energy needs from renewable sources,” Mammadov said, highlighting the country’s green energy transition. “We aim to create synergies between agriculture and renewable energy, which will allow us to innovate and contribute to the global fight against climate change.”

Mammadov also expressed Azerbaijan’s pride in its role as a bridge between nations, promoting dialogue and fostering international cooperation on climate action. He stressed that Azerbaijan is not only committed to meeting its renewable energy goals but is also dedicated to ensuring agriculture remains a central element of global climate strategies.
