Azerbaijan, Algeria agree to expand cooperation across multiple sectors

05 November 2025 09:27

On 4 November 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov paid an official visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, where he held meetings with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Speaker of the People’s National Assembly Ibrahim Boughali.

During the meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of relations between Azerbaijan and Algeria, which are built on friendship and mutual respect. President Tebboune fondly recalled President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Algeria in November 2022 to attend the 31st Summit of the League of Arab States, noting that this visit gave a strong impetus to the strengthening of bilateral ties, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The two sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, transport, education, agriculture, tourism, science, and technology. In this regard, the signing of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on the establishment of a Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation was assessed as a major step towards advancing bilateral relations.

Minister Bayramov and President Tebboune also underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation within international and regional organisations, including the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement. The Algerian side commended Azerbaijan’s initiatives during its chairmanship and hosting of several international platforms, noting their contribution to strengthening Azerbaijan’s position in global affairs.

During the discussions, Minister Bayramov briefed the Algerian side on the history of Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan, the post-conflict situation in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan’s vision for establishing lasting peace and stability in the region, and the ongoing large-scale reconstruction and restoration efforts in the liberated territories.

Moreover, Minister Bayramov met with Speaker of the People’s National Assembly Ibrahim Boughali. The meeting focused on the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda, priorities within inter-parliamentary relations, and regional developments.

Both sides highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and the potential for further expanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Speaker Boughali fondly recalled his participation in the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network in 2022, as well as productive meetings held during the visit of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, to Algeria.

It was underlined that closer cooperation in political, economic, and humanitarian fields, as well as between the peoples of both nations, remains a key element of the bilateral relationship. The parties emphasised the successful cooperation of the Azerbaijani and Algerian parliaments within international parliamentary organisations and the importance of mutual support in those platforms.
