Azerbaijan border guards foil major drug smuggling attempt from Iran Photo
In a successful operation by the State Border Service, Azerbaijani border guards intercepted a drug smuggling attempt along the Iranian border, seizing over 28 kilograms of narcotics and arresting two individuals.
The operation occurred on the grounds of the Horadiz border detachment, Caliber.Az reports.
On March 25, border guards uncovered and seized 22.4 kilograms of marijuana and 490 methadone tablets from an illicit shipment.
On April 6, a border patrol team stationed at a checkpoint along the state border observed two suspicious individuals. Following swift operational actions, they arrested Bakhshaliyev Bakhshali Kamil, born in 1993, and Karimov Ilgar Ilham, born in 1996, both residents of the Agdash region, who were attempting to smuggle 5.7 kilograms of marijuana across the border.
Investigative procedures are ongoing as authorities continue to probe the case.
