Azerbaijan-Brazil summit signals bright future for bilateral cooperation PHOTO

02 September 2025 19:02

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov paid a visit to Brazil, marking a significant step in deepening diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.

The visit featured the fifth round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Brazil, held in Brasília, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.

Mammadov led the Azerbaijani delegation, while Brazil was represented by First Deputy Foreign Minister Maria Laura da Rocha. The discussions encompassed a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation, exploring opportunities for enhanced collaboration in politics, economy, energy, transport, education, tourism, culture, and humanitarian affairs. The talks underscored the mutual commitment to expanding the scope of partnership across these diverse sectors.

During the consultations, da Rocha extended congratulations to Baku for the historic agreements signed on August 8 in Washington, signaling Brazil’s support for Azerbaijan’s diplomatic achievements. In response, Mammadov provided an update on the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, highlighting the significant development on September 1, when the OSCE Ministerial Council formally concluded the Minsk Process and its associated mechanisms.

Mammadov’s visit included a high-level meeting with Brazil’s Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, who reflected warmly on his participation as head of the Brazilian delegation at COP29 in Azerbaijan in November 2024 and his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. Alckmin emphasized the importance of nurturing friendly and cooperative relations, noting the value of ongoing political consultations and the inaugural session of the Joint Intergovernmental Working Group on Trade and Investment Cooperation as pivotal platforms for advancing bilateral ties.

In a separate meeting with Brazil’s Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, both sides celebrated the robust development of political dialogue and the steady growth in bilateral trade. A key highlight of the visit was the signing of an Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Education between the governments of Azerbaijan and Brazil, a milestone that promises to foster academic exchanges and collaboration.

Concluding his visit, Mammadov engaged with Brazil’s media, granting interviews to the state-run Empresa Brasil de Comunicação and the private television channel SBT, where he elaborated on the outcomes of the visit and the future trajectory of Azerbaijan-Brazil relations.
