Azerbaijan, China hold high-level political consultations in Beijing PHOTO
Beijing hosted a new round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and China as part of the visit of Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elnur Mammadov, to China from March 26 to 28.
The discussions covered bilateral cooperation in various fields, including politics, trade, energy, transport, education, culture, and tourism. Both sides underscored the importance of high-level mutual visits in strengthening bilateral relation, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Mammadov provided the Chinese delegation with insights into Azerbaijan’s peace agenda, the ongoing process of normalizing relations with Armenia, and the challenges faced along the way.
He also highlighted Azerbaijan’s reconstruction and development efforts in the territories liberated from occupation, as well as the investment projects being implemented in these areas.
The parties exchanged views on cooperation between Baku and Beijing on international platforms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Regional issues and topics of mutual interest were also discussed.
During his visit, Mammadov met with Chen Zhou, Deputy Head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The meeting focused on the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan-China relations. Both sides emphasized that the mutual trust and friendship between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Chinese President Xi Jinping form the foundation for the comprehensive development of bilateral ties.
The Azerbaijani diplomat also met with SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev to discuss Azerbaijan’s partnership with the organization and future areas of cooperation.
Additionally, Mammadov engaged with the leadership of the Chinese Center for Globalization and representatives of various think tanks, briefing them on Azerbaijan’s geopolitical landscape and bilateral relations with China. He also answered questions from participants regarding Azerbaijan’s regional policies and global partnerships.
