Azerbaijan, Croatia discuss key political developments, future cooperation in Zagreb
On May 20, 2025, political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Croatia were held in Zagreb, where discussions centred on strengthening bilateral ties, addressing political developments, and emphasising the need for continued high-level reciprocal visits.
The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, while the Croatian delegation was led by Frano Matušić, the State Secretary of Croatia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the ministry told Caliber.Az.
This meeting marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Croatia.
Both sides emphasised the significance of strengthening their exchanges and cooperation within the international organisations. Key areas of focus during the consultations included trade, economic collaboration, and potential advancements in both traditional and alternative energy sectors. Additionally, the two sides discussed joint humanitarian efforts, particularly projects related to demining in post-conflict regions.
Rzayev provided detailed information on the current post-conflict situation in the South Caucasus, including the normalisation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He highlighted Azerbaijan's commitment to ensuring sustainable peace and shared insights into large-scale reconstruction projects taking place in the newly liberated territories. In addition to the consultations, Rzayev held further meetings with Croatian officials and delivered a speech at a conference marking the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan-Croatia diplomatic relations, reinforcing the significance of continued partnership between the two countries.
