Azerbaijan denies cancellation of flights to Tehran
Heydar Aliyev International Airport denied reports of cancelling flights from Baku to Tehran.
"Flights to Iran are operated as usual," the airport told the Baku-based news agency Trend on June 5.
Earlier, a number of Iranian media reported about the alleged cancellation of all flights from Azerbaijan to Iran without prior notice.
It came after the Azerbaijan Airlines’ website posted the warning by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 3, which said that “citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan are advised to refrain from visiting the Islamic Republic of Iran unless it is necessary, and those who still plan to visit Iran should exercise special caution”.
The warning came after reports that an Azerbaijani student, who went missing during a private visit to Iran in February, had been charged with espionage there.
The statement was also made taking into account the terrorist act committed in January this year against the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran, which resulted in restrictions on the work of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission.
