Azerbaijan expects decisive steps from Armenia, says FM Bayramov
Azerbaijan and Armenia have not yet reached a final agreement on the draft peace treaty, with negotiations ongoing, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.
Speaking to journalists at the Alley of Honour, Bayramov explained that the draft peace treaty comprises a preamble and 17 articles, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
"The texts of the preamble and 15 articles are fully agreed. Negotiations on the two remaining articles are still ongoing. No final agreement has been reached yet," he stated.
Bayramov further emphasized that Armenia’s Constitution still contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan, and Baku is waiting for Yerevan to take decisive action to resolve the issue.
"We do not agree with the arguments that Armenia has been putting forward recently. The recent decision of the Armenian Constitutional Court has further complicated the situation. In particular, it ruled that the preamble of the Armenian Constitution remains unchanged. It is the preamble that refers to the act of independence, which in turn encroaches on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan," he added.
Regarding the Zangazur corridor, Bayramov highlighted that Azerbaijan is making rapid progress in opening the corridor on its territory, with the construction of a bridge across the Araz River continuing. However, he noted that no final positive decision has been made regarding Armenia’s fulfillment of its obligations.
