Azerbaijan explores expanded green energy cooperation with Saudi ACWA Power PHOTO
Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power's CEO Marco Arcelli to discuss expanding the company’s activities in Azerbaijan and advancing the country’s green energy agenda.
During the meeting, both sides welcomed the potential for new projects, including onshore and offshore utility-scale wind power generation and transmission initiatives, Caliber.Az reports via Energy Minister.
Officials reviewed progress on the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant, noting that 30 wind turbines have been installed, one 220/33 kV substation has been completed, and final works are underway at a second substation.
The discussions also covered plans for a 200 MW wind power plant project, aimed at integrating additional green energy capacities into Azerbaijan’s electricity grid for domestic use and export.
Potential electricity supply from Nakhchivan to Türkiye, including a prospective wind energy project in partnership with ACWA Power, was also evaluated, along with cooperation on offshore energy production.
On regional energy connectivity, the meeting highlighted initiatives for a Black Sea subsea cable and onshore interconnectors via Georgia and Türkiye, linking Azerbaijan with European markets.
Officials emphasised the importance of interregional transmission for both electricity and data, noting that a fiber-optic component is being developed in parallel with the power transmission line.
