Azerbaijan, Georgia deepen dialogue on economic partnership, eye broader ties

14 June 2025 09:12

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Georgia, Faig Guliyev, met with Shota Berekashvili, the newly appointed chairman of the Georgian Parliament's Committee on Economy and Economic Policy, to discuss the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia shared details of the meeting, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Ambassador Guliyev began by congratulating Berekashvili on his new role and wished him success in his future work. He noted that Azerbaijan and Georgia have seen a significant deepening of their strategic partnership in recent years, especially in the area of economic cooperation. Guliyev also outlined major ongoing joint projects and discussed new initiatives that offer promising prospects in this direction.

During the meeting, the ambassador underscored Azerbaijan’s expanding role in ensuring the energy security of the European Union and highlighted Georgia’s increasingly important function as a transit hub. These developments, both sides agreed, have further strengthened the regional positions of both countries, reinforcing their roles as strategic actors in the South Caucasus.

In response, Berekashvili welcomed Ambassador Guliyev and emphasised that the close economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia enhances the importance of both countries on the regional and global levels. He identified several priority areas for deepening collaboration, including energy, transport, information technology, education, construction, and tourism. Berekashvili also pointed out that Georgia currently offers new opportunities in these sectors for companies with Azerbaijani capital.

The two also expressed satisfaction with the growing parliamentary contacts between Baku and Tbilisi and acknowledged the positive impact of bilateral projects on the development of the broader region. They agreed that the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia contributes not only to the prosperity of their respective countries but also to the well-being of the entire South Caucasus.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on additional issues of mutual interest.
