Azerbaijan hands over chairmanship of Asian Parliamentary Assembly to Bahrain
Azerbaijan has officially handed over the chairmanship of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly to the Kingdom of Bahrain, following a year-long tenure marked by active regional engagement.
Milli Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, currently on an official visit to Bahrain, addressed the 16th plenary session of the Assembly on January 26, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to the press and public relations department of the Milli Majlis, Gafarova highlighted Azerbaijan’s role during its chairmanship, which began at the 14th plenary session in Baku in February 2024.
“During Azerbaijan’s term, our country made concerted efforts to deepen cooperation and dialogue within the Assembly. This demonstrates the importance Azerbaijan attaches to the Asian Parliamentary Assembly as a key inter-parliamentary platform,” Gafarova said.
She also noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the Assembly, which has grown into a significant forum for constructive dialogue and regional solidarity.
The chairmanship has now been officially passed to Bahrain’s Council of Representatives.
