Azerbaijan, Iran hold consular consultations in Tehran PHOTO

Officials from the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran convened in Tehran on April 15 for the latest round of bilateral consular consultations, aimed at strengthening cooperation in consular and legal matters between the two neighbouring countries.

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, while the Iranian side was headed by Mojtaba Shasti Karimi, Director General of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The consultations brought together representatives from the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran and the Consulate General in Tabriz, along with officials from both foreign ministries and relevant state institutions, including the justice and interior ministries, migration services, and border control authorities of both countries.

During the discussions, the two sides reviewed the current state of consular cooperation and exchanged views on ways to further enhance the protection of the rights and legal interests of their citizens. They also addressed the provision of swift and effective consular and legal assistance, agreeing on the need to intensify cooperation to resolve existing challenges.

Bilateral engagement between law enforcement, judicial, migration, customs, and border agencies was also on the agenda. Both sides underlined the importance of coordinated efforts to deepen ties and implement joint initiatives in these areas.

As part of the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation was received by Vahid Jalalzadeh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, for a broader exchange of views on mutual cooperation.
