Azerbaijan, Ireland strengthen ties with appointment of new honorary consul
A formal reception in Dublin recently introduced Terry Leyden as the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Azerbaijan to Ireland, highlighting the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations.
The event, attended by notable figures, highlighted the growing importance of bilateral relations between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
In his address, Seán Ó Fearghaíl, Speaker of the Irish Parliament’s House of Representatives, emphasized the significance of strengthening ties with Azerbaijan. He said: "The appointment of Terry Leyden as Honorary Consul reflects the strong commitment of both Azerbaijan and Ireland to enhancing bilateral relations."
Ó Fearghaíl stressed the potential for expanding trade links, particularly in the areas of Azerbaijan’s exports to Ireland and the opportunities for Irish investment in Azerbaijan.
He also expressed support for efforts towards lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, acknowledging Azerbaijan’s initiatives to normalize relations with its neighbour.
The Speaker of the House thanked the Azerbaijani community in Ireland for its positive contribution to the country’s economy and social life, before expressing hope for the continued strengthening of relations.
Terry Leyden, speaking as the new Honorary Consul, outlined his commitment to fostering closer ties between the two nations.
"My goal is to deepen the ties between the two countries and foster closer relations between our peoples," he said, highlighting the importance of cooperation in economic, cultural, educational, and tourism sectors.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Ireland, Elin Suleymanov, also addressed the gathering, congratulating Leyden on his appointment in March.
He stressed the role the new consul would play in enhancing Azerbaijan-Ireland relations, with a focus on strengthening the partnership in the coming years.
