Azerbaijan issuing free electronic "COP29 Special Visas" for foreign attendees
Azerbaijan has begun issuing free electronic “COP29 Special Visas” for foreigners attending the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The system for issuing these special visas is already active, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.
These visas allow a single entry and exit into Azerbaijan. Participants needing re-entry must apply for a new COP29 special visa using their UNFCCC registration number. Foreign nationals traveling to Azerbaijan under COP29 must have passports valid for at least six months beyond their expected entry date.
Upon confirmation of registration via the UNFCCC online system, participants will receive an email with a link to apply for the visa. The COP29 special visa will show its issuance date and will remain valid until November 30, 2024.
Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.
Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.
Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit.
The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
