Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan discuss cooperation in nuclear energy
Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have discussed nuclear energy cooperation.
The discussions were held during a meeting between Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Almassadam Satkaliyev during the visit to Italy, Caliber.Az reports.
“In Italy, we had a fruitful meeting with Almassadam Satkaliyev, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, and discussed the implementation of Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor, signing of an agreement for trilateral strategic partnership in green energy, and the activities to be taken within COP and a collaboration of practices in nuclear power,” the minister wrote on X.
Diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan were officially established on August 27, 1992. Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have consistently supported each other in international organisations. Azerbaijan backed Kazakhstan’s bid for the non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in 2017-2018, just as Kazakhstan had supported Azerbaijan's bid for the same role in 2012-2013. Azerbaijan was also one of the first countries to endorse Kazakhstan’s hosting of the Expo-2017.
Both countries are actively engaged in the Organisation of Turkic States, Turkish Academy, Turkic Heritage and Culture Foundation, Turk-PA, and TURKSOY. Bilateral cooperation extends to regional projects in sectors such as transport, energy, and logistics. Key initiatives like the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route have bolstered their strategic position in global cargo transportation.
The “Aktau Production and Logistics Center,” built with Azerbaijani investment in the Aktau sea port, plays a pivotal role in enhancing economic and trade relations. In the humanitarian domain, the two countries have established significant cultural ties, with five centres dedicated to studying Azerbaijan's history and culture currently operating in Kazakhstan.
