Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov has given a broad interview to the Colombian leading news TV channel NTN24, which covers the whole territory of the American continent, within the framework of his working visit to Colombia.
The piece published under the title "Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Urges France not to Provoke Armenia to a New War" provides detailed information on the current situation and prospects of development of Azerbaijan-Colombia relations, the process of normalisation of relations with Armenia, as well as France's destructive activities in the region, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico told Azertag.
Mammadov said Azerbaijan is interested in deepening cooperation with Colombia and other Latin American countries.
He said that during the political consultations held in the Colombian capital Bogota, along with discussing the current state of bilateral relations, the sides exchanged views on the development of cooperation in various fields, including humanitarian demining.
The diplomat noted that Azerbaijani lands not only suffered from the heavy consequences of the Armenian occupation over the years but were also massively mined.
Providing details of the consequences of Armenian mine terrorism, the deputy minister expressed hope that Colombia, which has extensive experience in combating the mine threat, will show solidarity with Azerbaijan in this field.
During the interview, Mammadov also spoke about Azerbaijan's peace agenda, the normalisation of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations, negotiations on a final peace agreement and the progress made.
He said that the local anti-terrorist activities carried out in September this year were directed exclusively against illegal armed formations of separatists, and all necessary steps have been taken to ensure the rights and security of the Armenian population of Karabakh and their reintegration into Azerbaijani society.
The Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister also noted that the actions of France, which supplies Armenia with defensive and offensive weapons, do not contribute to peace in the region. He called on France to refrain from destructive actions and not to provoke Armenia into a new war.
