Azerbaijan, Latvia eye new horizons in digital health and medical education
The Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan has hosted a meeting with Latvian Minister of Health Hosams Abu Meri, who is on a working visit to Baku.
The meeting was also attended by Edgars Skuja, Latvia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, the Ministry’s Media and Communications Department reported to Caliber.Az.
Held in an atmosphere of constructive dialogue and mutual understanding, the discussion focused on the current state of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia in the fields of healthcare and medical science, as well as opportunities to further enhance collaboration.
Welcoming the Latvian delegation, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Health, Teymur Musayev, highlighted the strong record of bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including healthcare and medical science. “To improve the efficiency of our countries' healthcare systems, we have all the necessary tools for cooperation in the field of medical education,” Musayev said. “In addition, there are optimal conditions for the exchange of modern methodological and scientific-practical information in the field of continuing professional education for medical specialists.”
Musayev also underlined that the digitalisation of Azerbaijan’s healthcare system remains one of the ministry’s top priorities and pointed to Latvia’s achievements in this area. “Significant progress has been made in the development of digital healthcare in Latvia,” he noted. “Studying Latvia's experience in this area can be useful for us.”
The minister further drew attention to the potential for developing medical tourism. “Mineral water sources and other resort and recreational resources attract many tourists to Azerbaijan and Latvia,” Musayev said. “Given this, the availability of sanatorium and resort treatment for citizens of both countries is an important issue.”
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Hosams Abu Meri emphasised the importance of such meetings for strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia in healthcare and for promoting the exchange of knowledge and expertise. He also expressed confidence that collaboration between the health ministries of both countries would continue to develop at a new and more advanced level.
The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
