Azerbaijan, Lithuania strengthen cooperation in tax sphere
Azerbaijan and Lithuania will establish a working group to strengthen cooperation in the tax sphere.
The relevant agreement was reached during a videoconference between the head of the State Tax Service Orkhan Nazarli and the head of the State Tax Inspectorate of Lithuania Edita Janušienė, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani State Tax Service.
The sides discussed the priorities defined within the framework of Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Intra-European Organization of Tax Administrations (IOTA), opportunities for partnership and improvement of the organization's activities.
The heads of the tax services emphasized the importance of joint activities and initiatives aimed at the development of international relations and the use of effective fiscal instruments.
Nazarli and Janušienė noted the need to ensure fair economic practices, stimulate investments and comply with international standards was also emphasized.
Moreover, the talks included a discussion of promising projects and areas for further cooperation.
Notably, Azerbaijan and Lithuania have recently been expanding their cooperation in a variety of sectors, emphasizing strategic partnerships and economic growth. Both countries have engaged in high-level political dialogues, with reciprocal visits by their presidents serving as a platform for strengthening ties. The two leaders have discussed ways to enhance trade relations, particularly in information technologies, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and transport infrastructure.
A key area of collaboration is the energy sector, where Azerbaijan's growing role in European energy markets is being supported by Lithuania. Both nations are also focusing on renewable energy development, with Lithuania's experience in the field being a potential model for Azerbaijan. Additionally, transportation projects linking the Caspian and Baltic Seas are being prioritized, which would enhance connectivity and trade between the regions.
