Azerbaijan marks 106th anniversary of Baku's liberation from Armenian-Bolshevik occupation A century of alliance with Türkiye
Today marks the 106th anniversary of Baku's liberation from Armenian-Bolshevik occupation, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
On September 15, 1918, Azerbaijani and Turkish soldiers, having liberated Baku from the Bolshevik-Dashnak junta, wrote a glorious chapter in Azerbaijan’s history. Despite Azerbaijan declaring independence in May 1918, part of the country's territory, including Baku and surrounding areas, remained under occupation.
The newly independent Azerbaijan lacked sufficient resources to ensure its territorial integrity. Amid complex political circumstances, Ottoman Türkiye sent troops under the command of Nuru Pasha to safeguard the territorial integrity of its brotherly nation, Azerbaijan. Despite European protests against the arrival of Turkish troops in Azerbaijan, Ottoman Türkiye honorably fulfilled its historical duty in August-September 1918.
On September 15, the Caucasian Islamic Army and the Azerbaijani corps liberated Baku from the occupiers. Following this historic event, the capital of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was moved from Ganja to Baku.
Throughout history, Türkiye has supported Azerbaijan both politically and militarily. From the early days of the Patriotic War, which began on September 27, 2020, for the liberation of Azerbaijan's occupied lands, Türkiye provided political support to Azerbaijan. The statements and speeches by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in support of Azerbaijan’s rightful struggle have demonstrated the friendship and brotherhood between the two nations. This support from the Turkish authorities and personally from Recep Tayyip Erdoğan played an invaluable role in Azerbaijan's victory in its just fight for restoring its territorial integrity.
Azerbaijan-Türkiye relations continue to grow positively. Numerous documents signed between the two countries before and during the Patriotic War are indicators of the unity and support the brotherly states provide each other.
