"I am pleased to meet with Minister of Mining, Oil, and Gas, Admir Šahmanović, during my visit to Montenegro. We had a fruitful discussion on bilateral energy cooperation and strengthening our ties," the Azerbaijani diplomat wrote on his social media page.
Thus, Azerbaijan and Montenegro established diplomatic relations on April 24, 2008, following Azerbaijan’s recognition of Montenegro’s independence in 2006. Azerbaijan has a Diplomatic Office in Podgorica, while Montenegro maintains an embassy in Baku.
The Azerbaijani Diplomatic Mission in Podgorica began operations in 2012, and Montenegro opened an Honorary Consulate in Baku in 2013.
High-level visits have strengthened ties, including Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Montenegro in 2013 and Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović’s visit to Azerbaijan in 2019. Other ministerial and parliamentary delegations have also engaged in exchanges.
Inter-parliamentary cooperation is led by Azerbaijan’s Working Group on Azerbaijan-Montenegro relations, established in 2011.
