Azerbaijan naval forces commander visits Pakistan to boost cooperation Photo
The Commander of the Azerbaijan Naval Forces, Rear Admiral Shahin Mammadov, has paid an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan aimed at strengthening bilateral naval and defence cooperation.
During the visit, Rear Admiral Mammadov met with Pakistan’s Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf. An official welcoming ceremony was held in accordance with military protocol, which included the performance of the national anthems of both countries, an inspection of the guard of honour, and the laying of a wreath at the Shehids Monument, Caliber.Az cites the Defence Ministry.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between the navies of Azerbaijan and Pakistan. They emphasised the importance of conducting joint naval exercises to facilitate the exchange of experience and enhance the professional capabilities of naval personnel.
Rear Admiral Mammadov also held talks with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defence, Khawaja Asif, during which he expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to the Azerbaijani delegation. He noted that expanding defense cooperation with Pakistan remains a priority for Azerbaijan’s leadership.
Both sides underscored the significance of Azerbaijan–Pakistan military relations and expressed confidence that reciprocal visits would further contribute to bilateral cooperation.
As part of the visit, Rear Admiral Mammadov met with the Commander of the Pakistan Fleet, Vice Admiral Abdul Munib. He also visited Azerbaijani military personnel currently undergoing education and training in Pakistan, where he inquired about their academic progress and training conditions.
The Azerbaijani naval commander additionally toured Pakistan’s ship repair facilities to familiarise himself with the infrastructure and capabilities available.
Officials noted that the visit is expected to play an important role in advancing cooperation between the naval forces of Azerbaijan and Pakistan, particularly in the areas of military education, joint training, and military-technical collaboration.
